KEES has been exclusively retained by the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in its search for two new Advancement roles: Director of Philanthropic Engagement and Major Gifts Officer.

 

The mission of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC), a seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is to form visionary leaders to bear witness to the good news of Jesus Christ. Based in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, LSTC is the leading urban Lutheran seminary training students to serve in the global community.

 

At the convergence of the launching of the school’s new Strategic Plan and the public phase of a multi-million dollar campaign, LSTC will be adding new staff members and refining current roles to better encourage specialization, focus and accountability. The Director of Philanthropic Engagement,  reporting to the Vice President for Advancement, will focus on donor facing staff leadership as well as carrying and cultivating a portfolio of high potential donors. The Major Gifts Officer will focus on carrying a portfolio of mid- to high-level potential donors for development, solicitation and stewardship.

Specific requirements include: 

 

Both Roles

  • Passion for theological education, social justice and LSTC’s mission.
  • Great comfort level with direct donor interaction is a must, including discussions of personal and family finances, faith, and asking for major financial commitments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and maintaining positive relationships with diverse individuals, including executives, clergy, high-level volunteers, wealthy donors, internal stakeholders and leadership.
  • Career track record that shows stability with an organization and capacity to develop and nurture relationships culminating in overall success.

 

Director of Philanthropic Engagement

·      A minimum of 3 years of individual giving/major gifts experience in a highly productive program and a minimum of 5 years of documented experience managing a team of Development professionals is required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree; advanced degree and/or CFRE credential preferred.
  • Proven success in building strong and productive work teams, with a focus on mentoring and nurturing staff development.
  • An advanced level of Raiser’s Edge experience is preferred.

Major Gifts officer

·      A minimum of 3 years of experience in major gift fundraising, with a proven track record of success and a strong working knowledge of strategy development and moves management systems in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship processes.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Ability to travel 50-60% of the time, and comfort working remotely.
